Indeed, the Bond series does. Most of the books have pulpy elements -- reflected in a lot of the movies, too, of course.

Here's a Stephen Graham Jones story that's freely available (and free to listen to it read, if you want -- story at the site below and a link to the audio, as well -- but also Nightmare Magazine has a podcast that this is featured on). This is definitely weird fiction stuff. Jones is damned good at it.

Fascinating quotes, Charles! Interesting insight into the times and viewpoints. It's a bit further insight into the mind of someone like Lovecraft, too, of course, whose opinions about foreigners are well-documented thanks to his copious surviving letters. Chambers seems to have a softer view of these "foreign elements" -- not surprising considering he spent years in Paris and, at least in this story, the French are included in that group along with the usual suspects. I think there are increasingly prominent black writers doing horror and weird fiction these days -- or maybe they're just finally getting published. I'll list some I've enjoyed. Victor LaValle -- famous for The Ballad of Black Tom which is HPL's The Horror at Red Hook retold through the perspective of a black protagonist. He's also written other horror and spec fic, though. P. Djeli Clark -- wrote Ring Shout which I also enjoyed -- more pulpy, I felt, than LaValle's writing. Stephen Graham Jones -- not black but a person of color with a very realist style of writing and very much magical realism. The Only Good Indians is surprising, shocking and incredible. If I think of more (and I know of more), I will post some more later.

The Athena Club sounds great! I also found Affinity Bridge good but not great. Enjoyable, though! I very much enjoyed Mark Hodder's Burton and Swinburne adventures. Steampunk with crazy time travel -- the series ranges from good to great, funny to grim, but I loved some of the books too much. The first is The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack.
