@BionicDave @G.L. McDorman I hope I don’t seem I empathetic. I don’t think the writers nor anyone like me who felt a bit vindicated at all felt like “yeah killing military is great.” But as a for instance, mansplaining, while a cutesy nomer, goes hand and glove in with degradation of women. The photo I posted below was posted to several groups I’m on and without exception every one of them had a pile on of juvenile “titty” jokes down to posting a photo with said area circled in red. When I suggested they cut the juvenile remarks and joking I was mansplained into why I was a prude, too sensitive, one out and out threatened me badly enough the admin offered a screen shot to give law enforcement and while the admin of one group took a stern stance another, a woman no less, said I had to let “dudes be dudes” and it was just gentle ribbing. She also suggested I was too sensitive and it was the same thing as calling Anson Mount “Captain Dimples”. It is not. And I have first hand experience of where that kind of derision leads. Calling someone Dimples comes no where near that. That all happened between last night and this morning. After 45 or so adult years of this type of thing to my face in real life, I don’t put up with it anymore. But I’m frustrated and mad today that we are still at “boys will be boys”. I hope that goes a bit of the way to explaining the type of frustration women experience. At least I do and the scene suggests I’m not alone. And the fact is there are plenty of problematic scenes day in and out on tv since the beginning of time where, though probably not a military character women have gotten similar treatment. Sometimes a lot more subtly but even on Star Trek it’s there. It’s Troi continually being a victim, it’s Kirk throwing the three breasted hooker into a tank, and of course TOS, which I dearly love, has about two billion examples but the deal is it isn’t 1966 anymore but day in and out, you still get bombarded with this. So I don’t want to sound callous when I say it was satisfying, but I thought I’d give a bit of context to my statement and it was definitely not about disrespecting the military. I need that to be clear.
