I really don't like spoilers in general. I don't watch movie trailers or read articles/blogs until after I've watched something. So I've been avoiding Disco spoilers like crazy but finally read (by accident!) the Voq/Ash theory. It really coloured my viewing of the fall finale as the flashback scenes seem to be "medical" in nature vs "just" torture. If the theory is true, I'll be a great story line and I'm anxious to see how they will unfold it. My only consolation is that I'm sure it'll be Lorca's Tribble that will eventually unravel the secret Klingon identity of Ash hahaha!
Also - I'm with Valerie on #teambluesparkle. I totally think Lorca was referring to the trillions on Pahvo.
point taken - all is updated. Honestly I really do try to avoid all spoilers. I mean, I went into "We need to talk about Kevin" thinking it was a family dramedy. So yea, I was disappointed to read about the theory - but yes, I would LOVE the internet to be WRONG. Pina colada's for two please!
IF Disco has indeed duped Reddit with a Voq/Ash red herring, then this series would have my heart forever. For as much as I do want to see the Voq/Ash story?... even more do I love it when the all-knowing, all-powerful Internet is wrong!
I think Gloriainacoma and BionicDave are spot-on here, but I'm trying really hard to be neutral about it. Either way, though, something surgical has been done to Tyler's brain that has affected his memories and perhaps his sense of identity. I'm up for the theory being true if that gives us a story about a person with conflicting identities who want different things, a story about Tyvoq (I'm sorry) having to choose between L'Rell and Burnham. But I'm also up for discovering that we've all been trolled and that Voq has been drinking pina coladas on Risa this whole time.
P.S. I just looked to see if the little crown next to my name means that I can add some sort of spoiler guard or just make the first few lines blank, but alas it appears that the High Council has not given me that kind of power.
P.S. @gloriainacoma - you might want to edit your original post to make the title & first sentence less spoilery, so anyone just coming to the main page won't be immediately spoiled by it. Maybe retitle it "THAT ASH THEORY (POTENTIAL SPOILERS)" and reword your first sentence so that the "Voc/Ash" part isn't revealed on the main page? Thanks for posting though! :)
Yeah, I totally think that the Voq/Ash theory is true (and that clearly not even he knows it yet). Glenn mentioned that in part of the flashbacks the perspective of the camera seemed quite telling; I agree, I think it was from Voq's point of view as he stared across a medical table to the real Ash Tyler on another medical table, watching as RealAsh's brain was being prepped for a surgical memory transfer into Voq's brain. I also think the sex scene with "Ash" and L'Rell was not rape, that is was actually Voq and L'Rell having consensual sex - and that SleeperCellVoq-as-Ash (in his present confusion) merely imagined his present body being there, instead of his original Klingon body.
In retrospect, I now see why the writers killed off Security Chief Landry; they needed that important position open for Lorca to give it to SleeperCellVoq-as-Ash later on. I am guessing that at some crucial point, L'Rell will utter a trigger phrase (or whatever) which will immediately summon Voq's memory back into his new body, just in time to provide an awesome episode cliffhanger: as L'Rell orders him to kill Burnham! / and Voq-as-Ash turns to face the woman we've watched him fall in love with / and Burnham says don't, I know our feelings are real, you can trust me! / and Voq-as-Ash stands there with his phaser, struggling, torn between his old life and his new one. Who will he choose?! LOL
OR the Klingon spy is Airiam.
