Valerie & Glenn were wondering who Mysterious Robot Bridge Crewwoman is? - and apparently, this is "Lt. Commander Airiam," the Discovery's "spore drive ops officer." As written on the Memory Alpha wiki: "Airiam's nature has been subject to a number of divergent background statements. StarTrek.com described Airiam as being a 'synthetic-Human hybrid,' while Ted Sullivan tweeted that she was an alien. Meanwhile After Trek: Episode 3 described her species as 'augmented alien,' while After Trek: Episode 5, involving Gretchen J. Berg, Neville Page and Glenn Hetrick called her instead an 'augmented Human.'"
Whatever she is, our mysterious spore drive ops officer got some strange coverage in "Magic To Make The Sanest Man Go Mad." The camera kept cutting to close-ups of Airiam while Harry Mudd was on the bridge, which seemed to imply that she was about to figure into the plot somehow... but nope. Alas, maybe we'll get to know Airiam at some point in the future.

@Valerie, me too! Even if only to find out what happened to Impossibly Handsome Bridge Crewman Milton Richter. Am beginning to think he was killed off-camera during Discovery's rescue of Lorca in "Choose Your Pain."
I personally loved Glenn's prediction that we'll eventually get an episode called "Bridge Crew" that only focuses on those more senior officers. :)
That's the top of my wish-list, for sure. So many (seemingly) interesting people on the bridge.
Just (finally!) watched the time-loop Mudd episode today, and my wife and I also noticed that they kept focusing on her. Maybe it was just a nod to the time-loopy repetitiousness. (I was also intrigued by repeated shots of shaved-eye-jewelry redhead helmsman whats-her-name in the party scene, where she nods to Ash's toast to lost crewmen. I hope we learn more about what happened to her soon.)
84% of guest-stars disagree.
Bones is looking pretty good! Further proof that Kirk is never the right choice for the first two categories of Smooch/Marry/Kill.
"Virile Neck" is the name of my new hardcore band.
@Glenn - hahahaha! Well, Khan said it's very cold in space, I am sure THAT is why Bones needed to wear those warm kerchiefs around his exposed, virile neck!
WHOA. I think the reason I've never noticed this before is that I'm obsessed with Bones's kerchief.
Happened to be watching "Star Trek III" and I get to the part when krazy katra'd Bones goes to the Star Wars-y bar... and LOOK at what's walking in behind him. Could it be Airiam's future son?! Lol
Yes, I've noticed that noise as well. I've assumed that it Airiam makes the sound (or at least is the source of it), but at this point anything is possible.
@Valerie, it improves the convo immensely to see Airiam as cute! versus the raging cauldron of anti-human hatred I perhaps mistakenly assumed was under all that cyborgery lol. I just googled Sara Mitich and she's gorgeous. Also, is it just me, or is there a very subtle tech-y/ clicky sound effect which they add whenever the camera angles on Airiam? It's exactly like a sound effect I just heard in "Blade Runner 2049," which that film uses for these small flying drones Jared Leto's character uses to see. It's a concurrently pleasant and unsettling noise.
Sara Mitich also played a character in The Expanse who is meant to appear strange and altered because of the particular environmental conditions of living inside an asteroid.
Does it add anything to the conversation if I say that I think she's really cute?
And are the augmentations something that happened on Discovery, then? Also, when is the Globe going to do an all-Trek production of Much Ado About Nothing?
@Glenn, that is a great observation - especially in light of TrekMovie.com's reference to Producer Bryan Fuller describing Airiam as such: "Airiam, who works on the Discovery bridge and will usually be seen off to Lorca’s side..." Almost like a robot right-hand-man who does Lorca's bidding. Very Ariel/Prospero!
Wow, that all makes me more intrigued. The name is certainly interesting and sounds a lot like Prospero's Ariel to me.
