Since Glenn and Brandon have now trained me to look for weird and speculative fiction everywhere, I present Rush and, specifically, the song "Dreamline" from the album Roll The Bones (1991). I'm not claiming that Neil Peart (the primary lyricist in Rush) is actually pulling from Lovecraft or anyone similar. More like a fun coincidence.
A few choice lines; complete lyrics linked below (emphasis and notes are mine):
He’s got a road map of Jupiter
A radar fix on the stars
All along the highway
She’s got a liquid-crystal compass (the most 90's reference possible!)
A picture book of the rivers
Under the Sahara (I'm hoping this is a lost text that shows the location of the Nameless City under the sands)
Time is a gypsy caravan
Steals away in the night
To leave you stranded in Dreamland
We travel in the dark of the new moon
A starry highway traced on the map of the sky
We travel on the road to adventure
On a desert highway straight to the heart of the sun
